YAM UGANDA HOSTS VOLUNTEERS FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF HONG KONG
During our stay
there, we wanted to teach something that we know best, since we are Medical
students, we planned and organized a ‘health education’ teaching course. We
went to children from Primary 4 to 6 at Good Hope Primary School and also an after-school extracurricular activity group called Prom Talent Africa. We taught
the basics of a healthy lifestyle, a balanced diet, essential disease control
methods, simple first aid techniques and sex education (which is particularly
important in Uganda due to high incidences of AIDS and STDS). The local
children were extremely welcoming and gracious, we grew to become very attached
to them by the end of the three weeks it was heartbreaking to leave
